With iOS 15.4.1, Apple only released an update in April to close security gaps and extend battery life. The iPhone group is following up and releasing iOS 15.5, a version that fixes more bugs and promises some small improvements.
Apple Releases iOS 15.5 And iPadOS 15.5
After a week-long test phase, Apple has released new updates for the iPhone and iPad with iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5. In mid-March 2022, the US group released iOS 15.4, a version that brought some new features, including face recognition with a mask, new emojis, and the Universal Control function for the iPad.
However, since some errors crept in, Apple delivered another update ( iOS 15.4.1 ) about two weeks later to close security gaps and fix battery problems. Since the new features weren’t that long ago and Apple has also already announced the iOS 16 version, iOS 15.5 is also in the spirit of bug fixes.
Apple Update Fixes Bugs And Brings Small Improvements
In the run-up to iOS 15.5, the rumor mill was churning. Some developers claim to have discovered references to a new music app called “Apple Classic” in the beta version. But the release of iOS 15.5 should have caused disappointment because the version is not an update of major innovations.
However, users of the podcast app can look forward to new settings because of iOS 15.5. They can restrict podcast episodes saved on the iPhone and automatically delete older episodes. The new update also includes improvements for the Apple Pay extension “Apple Pay Cash.”
With “Request” and “Send,” users will find two new buttons there that are intended to make administration within the Apple wallet easier. However, since “Apple Pay Cash” is not available in Germany, these innovations do not play a major role for users in this country.
What, in turn, could be an advantage are improvements to the home app. Because according to Apple, the application will no longer fail when users enter or leave their homes. iOS 15.5 also fixes numerous small bugs designed to improve the operating system.
Install iOS 15.5
By default, Apple recommends installing the new update as soon as possible. iOS 15.5 has been available for free download since May 16th. The version can be downloaded via the device settings under “General” and “Software update.” The update supports all devices already running iOS 15 – i.e., all models from the iPhone 6S onwards.
The corresponding iPad version, iPad 15.5, is available for devices from the fifth generation and the iPad mini 4. In addition to the updates for the iPhone and iPad, Apple also released new software versions for the Apple Watch, Apple TV boxes, and the Mac update macOS Monterey 12.4.
