For decades it has been predicted that the mainframe has an expiration date. The truth is that this technology is more than half a century old and the beginning of the end is already taking place.
Google has purchased Cornerstone Technology, whose technologies facilitate the migration of data stored on the mainframe to the cloud, a complicated process.
Google believes that Cornerstone Technology will help shape the future in the cloud, offering the necessary services for mainframe customers to modernize their infrastructure and applications. “Thanks to automated processes, Cornerstone tools can break down Cobol, PL / 1 or programs and transform them into cloud natives, ” explains Howard Weale, director of transformation practices at Google.
The service offered by Google will provide three pillars. The first is to develop a migration path in which Google values the customer’s mainframe environment to move towards a modern service architecture.
The second: convert any language and database into another language or database to adapt applications to new environments. The third is to automate and facilitate the migration to Google Cloud by unlocking its values to drive new innovative use cases in data analysis and storage.
